floatingguys21I just loved this picture that helps anyone break through their individual roadblocks to realizing their full potential. Believe it or not these guys are not really floating above the earth. It looks like that but they have actually jumped that high and the photographer caught this amazing shot. But, suspend your judgment for a moment and explore the possibilities this picture invites.

Now refocus your attention to your existing network and ask yourself the following questions:

1. Who in your network will play to your strengths?

2. Who will cover your weaknesses?

3. What one person would you like to meet if you could network with anyone in the world? What qualities does that person have? List them and then look for people who have similar qualities.

4. What top three industry leaders does your network listen to the most?

5. What top three leaders in all other industries do they most admire?

6. What if the network you had comprised of only top performers? What qualities would they have? What qualities do you have to would complement theirs?

7. How can you listen better every day? Top-performing networkers are top listeners.

8. Who is one person you know who helps others in the organization above and beyond his or her own work responsibilities?

9. What one thing would you like to be doing or do differently that you are not doing now. (e.g. have great meetings that lead to new business or design a program that comes in under budget and on time).

10. What would it look, sound, feel like to be more successful in your networking?

Any of these questions can be used to get you thinking in ways that will help you take your networking to “the next level.” Please feel free to offer up some answers here. I will also be sharing these with my Networlding Group on LinkedIn. Please join the discussion there also by clicking here.

Millennial Books

August 18, 2009

guidetolifeFollowing is a recent press release by one of the latest authors we helped to publish his first book.

What began as a suburban Chicago dad’s letters to his daughters has become a new roadmap for adults seeking perspective in challenging times. Your Name Here GUIDE TO LIFE began as a series of letters from author Michael Rosenbaum to his then-teenage daughters, but response from Baby Boomers has revealed a much broader audience of adults seeking life balance.

“I thought of the project as a collection of dadlore, lessons that dads would pass on to their children,” said Rosenbaum, a business consultant and former financial journalist. “When I showed the text to my friends, I expected comments on its relevance to their own kids. Instead, they said they thought the book was really written for them.

“The recession and rising joblessness have led many of my peers to reconsider their priorities and seek a different balance in their lives,” Rosenbaum added. “They said the book offers a strong template for that task.”

YNH GUIDE TO LIFE is the first inspirational/self-help book from Rosenbaum, whose prior works included business textbooks, a guide to corporate governance and a theatrical comedy. His story-laden text draws on experiences with cops, morticians, psychologists and others to deliver an enlightening, warm and humorous journey through the human condition.

“I’ve been collecting stories and insights for decades, scribbling them down on index cards, Post-it Notes and far too many cocktail napkins,” Rosenbaum explained. “Often, my notes included something I’d done that was stupid, but instructive. At other times, a friend would make an observation so clear and insightful that one simple sentence became a life-changing event.

“One of the biggest insights I’ve gained, and one I try to pass on in the book, is that we can learn important lessons from pretty much everyone, if we just pay attention,” he added.

Your Name Here GUIDE TO LIFE is the first in a series planned by Barosum Books, based on the wisdom of ordinary people. The first volume is available at Amazon.com with a list price of $12.99.
